10 Songs Which Gave Birth To Heavy Metal

7. The Stooges - I Wanna Be Your Dog

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJIqnXTqg8I Recorded: 1969 Feedback drenched, repetitive, grinding and as dark as a solar eclipse, these nihilistic and nasty punks unleashed a Proto-Metal monster in "I Wanna Be Your Dog". Relentlessly punishing, "I Wanna Be Your Dog" foreshadows Metal's penchant for settling on a riff and a groove and not deviating for the entire duration of the song. The band seem to bask in primitive Rock fury, raw bloody knuckles dragging menacingly across the gravelly floor, as their raw and over-amplified take on Psychedelic Rock and British Blues open new wounds. Iggy Pop's feral vocals take centre stage, spitting grit and bile and baiting his audience while the band monotonously pummel away at your senses, barely even changing key as the battering continues apace. In essence, "I Wanna Be Your Dog" is a song completely devoid of finesse and stripped of all showmanship; all Rock and no Roll! The Stooges 'metal' attitude for not giving a toss about Rock's rules is best exemplified in the song's premature ending. It doesn't just fade out, it seems to completely give up; perhaps exhausted, possibly out of ideas but probably because The Stooges just didn't care if the song ended how you wanted it to. How Metal is that!

I love Heavy Metal, and generally anything that involves a guitar and loud noises, so I figured it was about time I put all the useless information in my head to good use and start writing a few things. Most of the time I'll be writing nonsense but occasionally I may surprise myself and appear half-way knowledgable.....but you can be the judge of that. Thanks for your fleeting attention!
