6. Rule The World - Take That
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhSGwPoHo6w Rule The World remained in the UK Top 100 chart from October 2007 till April 2009, but was kept from number 1 by Leona Lewis. To be fair, "Bleeding Love" was an international smash so it was really unfortunate that Take That went up against it. Still, the song was one of the band's biggest hits to date and definitely deserved to hit number 1. In 2007 the song was the 5th best selling single of the year. Of the 2000s decade, it was the 30th best-selling single in the UK. That is some serious achievement for a number 2 track. The song was the first from Take That to be written specifically for a movie, being featured in Stardust. In addition the song is entrenched in emotion for band member Gary Barlow. He performed the song 5 weeks after his father passed away on "Children In Need Rocks Royal Albert Hall" in 2009. Once again, just one week after the tragic stillbirth of Gary's daughter Poppy, the band performed the song at the 2012 Olympic Closing Ceremony. It is a powerful and moving ballad that has become well loved by the British public. But even the music buying population couldn't bring this fantastic track to the top.
