10 Songs You Didn't Realise Sample Other Songs

1. Bound 2 - Kanye West

Kanye is no stranger to sampling. From the raspy notes of Otis Redding to the robotic, disco-infused house duo Daft Punk, the Chicago-born rapper never seems to shy away from plucking the best parts from previously released tracks.

This philosophy carried over to the 2010s, and with the release of Yeezus in 2013, a standout moment on the release featured heavy influence from Ponderosa Twins Plus One's Bound.

Bound 2 fuses the funky, glittery R&B sounds from the early 1970s with Kanye's unapologetically sassy vocal notes and abstract approach to production. It was a stroke of genius.

The track forgoes any abrasive, experimental thrashings that often crop up through the album's 40-minute runtime, and provides a soulful respite that leaves a lasting impression on the listener.

You never quite know what West will come out with next, so the influences of the past could very well have been something completely new, deceiving the listener into thinking that Kanye isn't such a dedicated student of the music medium.

The sampling process was paid forward, as the song's smooth hook was even mimicked by Sigma for their hit dance track Nobody To Love.
