10 Songs You Know From The First SECOND
2. A Hard Day's Night - The Beatles
At the start of their career, the Beatles clearly didn't have plans to be the biggest band in the world. No matter how many people believed in the destiny of these Liverpool rockers, it was clear that the Fabs were following the Elvis model, from pumping out catchy singles to having movies made about them. However, if you have a film centered around a pop group, it better have a damn good theme song.
Looking to write a song to capture the hustle and bustle of Beatlemania, John Lennon came up with A Hard Day's Night, which set everything off on the right note. Though the song was fully written, the real magic came when George Martin suggested that the boys use the start of the film as an opportunity to experiment with an intro.
As the group brainstormed for a while, it wasn't until each member hit a different chord that we got the defining note that you hear today.
Even though the actual chord doesn't really resolve, it's not really supposed to, instead acting as a launchpad to prepare you for the pop music frenzy you're about to witness. Whereas Elvis might have had the looks and great singles, A Hard Day's Night was the one song that gave everyone a proper introduction to the Beatles' world.
