10 Songs You Need To Add To Your Halloween 2020 Playlist
7. God of Thunder - KISS
In retrospect, KISS has to have one of the goofiest facades in the history of rock music. Sure, their facepaint and spiky clothes may have looked intimidating at the time, but the way the band conducts themselves in recent years makes everything look like family entertainment nowadays. It's easy to mock the band's theatrical ambitions in hindsight, but they were able to pull off menacing at least once for God of Thunder.
Originally written by Paul Stanley, the sound of a man rising from the depths of the Earth to become the god of all known beings was pretty much a no-brainer for Gene Simmons to sing. As the song opens up with what sounds like little demons giggling, Simmons' gruff baritone cuts through the mix, as if he is proclaiming the words of this song from atop the clouds.
Chugging along at a persistent tempo, God of Thunder almost feels like a royal march for Simmons, which did wonders when he flaunted his Demon persona when he performed the song live. Over time, this record pales in comparison to the more gory tales of something like Cannibal Corpse, but when it comes to Halloween-centric songs, this is just the kind of over the top fun we're looking for.
