10 Successful Rock Acts Who Never Had A US Number 1
8. Black Sabbath - 70 Million Albums Sold
They may very well be the true fathers of heavy metal but one thing that Black Sabbath cannot lay claim to is having a number one single.
With a career spanning nearly 50 years and a lineup with more flexibility than a yoga instructor, even legendary tracks like Paranoid, War Pigs, Sweet Leaf, NIB, Neon Knights, and Heaven and Hell, the closest the band formerly called Earth came to a bonafide hit was Iron Man, which peaked at #52 in the winter of 1972.
Just think about that, a band that has been fronted by Ozzy Osbourne, Ronnie James Dio and Ian Gillan to name a few never even cracked the top 50 on the billboard singles chart. It really shakes one's faith in humanity.
