10 Successful Rock Acts Who Never Had A US Number 1
3. Bruce Springsteen - 135 Million Albums Sold
We are now approaching, “there is no freaking way these guys have never had a number one hit” territory, but here we are.
And going back to that Bob Dylan reference earlier, he played a huge part in influencing Bruce Springsteen. Not that Springsteen is any great shakes on the mic either but he has amassed a rabid and loyal fan-base that has done everything for him besides land one of his songs at number one on the singles chart.
With classic tunes Thunder Road, Glory Days and Darkness on the Edge of Town to his credit it was 1984’s Dancing in the Dark that landed him his only number 2 song of his career. To be fair though, it was probably less the quality of the song and more the presence of a future Monica Geller dancing on stage with Bruce that propelled this mediocre song to such great heights.
