10 Surprising Details You Didn't Know About The Killers

2. They Worked With Spike Lee On Their Video For 'Land Of The Free'

Throughout the years The Killers have strayed away from politics in their music, usually singing about personal struggles, relationships, or a homicidal Santa Claus. That all changed however with their powerful 2019 song 'Land Of The Free'.

Seeds for the song were planted after the Sandy Hook shooting of 2012 and inspiration continued from there. The song directly addresses issues such as immigration, mass shootings, and institutional racism. It's not a loud rock bop, but rather a solemn prayer for a better future.

Who could they possibly have gotten to direct a music video on a song dealing with such serious issues? Acclaimed filmmaker Spike Lee of course! The collaboration is a match made in heaven with Lee's direction adding to the lyrics in a way that simultaneously hurts and heals.

'Land Of The Free' is their first openly political song, and along with partnering with Lee, they even tweaked it following the death of George Floyd with Flowers singing, "Eight measured minutes and 46 seconds, another boy in the bag/Another stain on the flag."

Does this mean that they may be going in a new direction with more socially influenced songs? Possibly. Either way, this musical team-up is one for the ages. The Killers and Spike Lee together? How could you possibly go wrong with that?
