10 Surprisingly Heavy Songs By Non-Metal Bands
5. Future – Paramore
Paramore’s self-titled record contains some of the band’s best-known material. Singles such as ‘Still Into You’ and ‘Ain’t It Fun’ were huge hits and successfully bridged the gap between rock and pop.
Yet the very same album also contains Paramore’s most experimental work. ‘Future’ closes out the band’s fourth LP in a way no one could have predicted. It begins with a low key, downtrodden atmosphere featuring a minimalist vocal performance from Hayley Williams. But this section is merely an introduction.
For the most part, ‘Future’ carries a grimy, post-rock atmosphere driven by layers of heavy guitars that sound nothing like the band’s previous work. The song is essentially a wall of instrumentation that’s both hard-hitting and slightly hypnotic.
Whilst the length of the song may be off-putting for some, ‘Future’ is worth listening to purely because of how atypical it is for a group often labelled as a pop-rock band.
