10 Surprisingly Heavy Songs By Non-Metal Bands

4. Yuk Foo – Wolf Alice

‘Yuk Foo’ was the first single from Wolf Alice’s sophomore record (Visions of a Life), which went on to win the Mercury Prize in 2018. Far from being representative of the album, 'Yuk Foo' is uncharacteristically heavy.

The tune was written by frontwoman Ellie Rowsell during a lengthy tour cycle, and it’s basically an outpouring of frustration for two minutes. Rowsell unloads her angst in a flurry of curse words set against a hardcore punk instrumental that accumulates with a crashing finale.

Though Wolf Alice are accustomed to a polished level of production, ‘Yuk Foo’ is deliberately more rugged. When listening to this track, it’s almost as if you’re overhearing a jam session after a particularly long and arduous day.
