10 Surprisingly Heavy Songs By Non-Metal Bands
3. Negative Creep – Nirvana
Kurt Cobain wasn’t always the most imaginative lyricist. ‘Negative Creep’ is less about the meaning and more about raw aggression.
Cobain sings in a completely different style on this track. He sounds uncannily like Lemmy as he repeats the line ‘I’m a negative creep’ over and over again. And during one stage of the song, his vocals even morph into deranged screams.
The accompanying instrumental – like a lot of the songs on Bleach – is simple yet effective alongside Cobain’s unorthodox vocal delivery. Had 'Negative Creep' been much longer, such a basic riff would become rather wearisome, but thankfully, the song maintains its intensity for just the right amount of time.
Though 'Negative Creep' is one of Nirvana’s more straightforward tunes, it’s also one of their most distinctive.
