10 Terrible Rock Bands With One Incredible Album

7. Fush Yo Mang - Smash Mouth

It's nearly impossible to look at a band like Smash Mouth and not at least laugh a little bit. Any good will that these guys had at being a credible rock band ended up getting buried in layers upon layers of Shrek memes a long time ago. Before the lovable ogre though, there was some definite chops to be found on Fush Yu Mang.

Ignoring the ill-advised album title, the tunes on here are a great time capsule of what we were up to in the late '90s. With nothing really to worry about and the sorry sounds of post grunge starting to go way out of style, this is the kind of sunshine-y rock that soundtracked a lot of our childhoods. That didn't mean that we had lost the irony either, with songs like Walking on the Sun having a bit more of a dark touch if you look at the lyrics.

Compared to the rest of the rock scene, there's also something a bit retro about Smash Mouth's presentation. Along with the beach party theme on some of these songs, the crunch of the guitars and the echo on everything makes it sound closer to something by The Doors than your usual joke band. Some bands might aim to become a punchline, but someone like Richard Cheese wishes he could make a groove this sticky.
