10 Terrible Songs That Ruined Otherwise Flawless Albums
2. The Smiths Meat Is Murder (Meat Is Murder)
https://youtu.be/xacRTqk5QFM Heavy-handedness, thy name is Morrissey. Never before and never again will a song position itself to be so above those listening. What ultimately could have been The Smiths greatest album is completely derailed by this fake deep trudge through what must be your most conservative relatives idea of a commercial against animal cruelty. Morrissey is the king of pretension, but the pretension evident throughout this song has never been topped. Thematically, the album focuses on delivering biting commentary in regards to serious political issues - commentary that strays from going too over the top or coming off as so above-everyone-else as "Meat is Murder." Admittedly, a global conversation in regards to meat consumption and its effects on the environment needs to happen, but Morrissey's self-satisfied shaming has set back any notion that this conversation could be taken seriously for a long time. If any major catastrophe does come from persistent meat-eating, we can rest assured that this catastrophe would not be done out of any absentmindedness, but rather a collective spite towards Morrissey.
