10 Things Metallica Need To Get Right On The New Album

8. Over-Indulge In The Genre

Although you could argue that the band redefined what over-indulgence really is through the creation of the aforementioned Load and Reload albums, you can tell by the likes of their Orion Festival that the members of Metallica are more than aware of the upcoming talent underneath them. Rock, and metal in particular, is well aware of how big, brash and ridiculous it can be, it's part of why we fans love it so much, yet whilst I'm not about to say Metallica should turn into a tongue-in-cheek heavier Steel Panther, I do think the should indulge their more playful side. Just to make some of the heaviest, fastest, most tongue-waving, beer-drinking, female-gland-waving metal they can possibly produce, to really kick off the album in the most reassuring of ways. Lars is regularly on-record saying he thinks metal fans "need to be f*cked with" (hence him making out with Kirk at random intervals in the 90's. Yup, google it), however 2008's Death Magnetic ended with a positively furious track in My Apocalypse, and in a Testament-like fashion the guys showed that they can still throw out material that's just as aggressive as their older, often more celebrated work. Two more scoops of that please, with extra chocolate and chorded-breakdown wafers.
