10 Things You Didn't Know About Foo Fighters

9. Wasting Light Was Inspired By Abba And The Bee Gees

Dave Grohl, a man known as much for his curmudgeonly views on pop music as his iconic status in rock and roll history, might not be the first person you'd expect to be influenced by the disco era. But whether Uncle Dave is softening in his old age or he's just getting more subtle in how he messes with reporters, he's also copped to saying his band's 2011 album, Wasting Light, was inspired by two of the biggest disco acts of all time.
"I like loads of crazy-ass, dissonant, distorted rock 'n' roll, but I also love The Bee Gees and ABBA, bands whose pop choruses get bigger and bigger."
That's a big statement from someone who has a tendency to bluntly disapprove of pop music that's too glossy. And you don't get much glossier than ABBA. Of course, Grohl's speaking more to the songwriting process than the execution. Don't expect to to hear anything resembling "Dancing Queen" on the next Foo record.
