10 Things You Didn't Know About Foo Fighters

8. They Have A Very Strange Relationship With Prince

To be fair, who doesn't have a weird relationship with Prince in some way or another? The guy is literally made up of purple and enigmas. Still, in terms of working relations, they have a doozy. Back in 2003, Prince was very displeased with this young group of alt-rockers for covering his song, "Darling Nikki," telling them to "write their own tunes." In fact, there are still licensing issues that show up whenever the Foos try to include that cover in any official release. (It was cut from the CD edition of the group's Record Store Day contribution of cover songs, Medium Rare, when Q Magazine tried to give it to their subscribers.) Then, four years later, Prince covered the Foo's "Best of You" during his Super Bowl halftime performance. Then, four years after that, Prince decided he wanted to make all cover songs illegal. This was conspicuously around the same time that Prince invited Dave to jam with him, during which time they "covered" the Led Zeppelin classic, "Whole Lotta Love." So...Prince either hates cover songs but loves Foo Fighters now, or he finds the quirkiest of ways to send his message of disapproval to Grohl, in which case...what a weird guy.
