10 Things You Didn't Know About Foster The People

3. Pumped Up Kicks Wasn't Initially Released As A Single

Yep, Foster the People's biggest hit was never officially released when it first got noticed - instead, the band has it posted as a free download on their website in early 2010. The song would eventually go viral, through promotion by various blogs and Nylon magazine's use of the song in an online ad campaign.

It then went on to be used extensively in popular media, like an episode of Entourage in July 2010. After this, the song saw considerable airplay, making it on to Sirius XFM and Triple J radio. It would eventually be number 32 of Triple J's Hottest 100 of the year at the end of 2010.

Eventually, it was released as an official single in 2010 by Columbia Records. But, when it first made it big, it was just a free download that went viral and in the process, really showed the effect of the internet on the music industry.
