10 Things You Didn't Know About Nirvana's Nevermind

3. It Was Made For Only $65,000

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTWKbfoikeg Nirvana€™s first album Bleach was made for a grand total of $606 which they borrowed from Soundgarden guitarist Chris Everman -- who subsequently toured with the band after its release. It€™s understandable that the band made their debut effort on a shoestring considering they weren€™t actually the concert draw they later became. Having said that, you€™d think signing to a major label would increase your production budget, but that wasn€™t the case. Nevermind was recorded at the now defunct Sound City Studios in Van Nuys, California. If you€™ve seen Dave Grohl€™s Sundance documentary on the famed studio, you may understand why Nevermind cost so little to make. It was a shabby, murky and dingy warehouse that passed itself off as a studio. Although its decor screamed renovation, it did manage to draw in the top acts of the time (Fleetwood Mac, Johnny Cash, Neil Young) simply because it boasted a magical live-room that was affordable to hire. So, consider this a reminder: big budgets do not guarantee success and improve your chances of an album becoming an instant classic.
