10 Things You Should Be Listening To - End of the Road Special

6. First Aid Kit

folk/country/alternative Folk has been having a fare old renaissance for some time, thanks in no small part to the likes of Arcade Fire, Fleet Foxes and Mumford & Sons. Though its somewhat of a man€™s game at the minute despite the strong presence of females in the more independent and alternative spectrum over the years with the likes of Tegan & Sara and Laura Marling. Alongside Hannah Cohen, First Aid Kit are hopefully going to go no small way about rectifying the gender balance of world conquering folk. A sister songwriting duo that take note of the harmony and melancholy heavy folk that Fleet Foxes deal in, but give it a somehow more pure quality, heartfelt. The songs and melodies are haunting, but in their own way frustrating when you find out the oldest sibling is actually five months your junior. Entirely personal to me perhaps, but if I€™d been writing songs like these several years up to five months ago. I wouldn€™t be here, I can assure you of that. Though on the upside, I could marry one of them someday. Sigh. http://youtu.be/gekHV9DIjHc facebook website twitter
