10 Times Musicians Trolled Their Audience

1. I Am The Walrus - The Beatles

Out of all the eccentric personalities to come out of the 60's, John Lennon had all the makings of a musical troll. Whenever you thought you had Lennon all figured out, he would take a drastic left turn just to spite you. Once the Beatles' publicists made mention to Lennon about children dissecting Beatles lyrics at school, his devilish wit started to come into play.

Lennon thought it was absolutely absurd for teachers to discuss the hidden meanings of Beatles songs, given that most of it was up to interpretation.

After a few acid trips, Lennon came to the band with "I Am the Walrus," which was meant to be a response song to those trying to find these deeper meanings. Instead of putting straightforward lines into each verse, the entire lyric sheet is nothing but nonsense, containing everything from "eggmen" to walruses, to even even Edgar Allan Poe.

Though the lyrics are completely nonsensical when read out loud, they are absolutely spellbinding once paired up with the ethereal instrumentation and lush orchestral arrangement on the record.

After making the final product, Lennon proudly proclaimed that he would have fun watching the teachers try to figure out this track. The Beatles are known for redefining rock music, but "I Am the Walrus" proved their capacity to write classic songs was only matched by their cunning wit.
