10 Times Musicians Trolled Their Audience

8. Feel Good Hit of the Summer - Queens of the Stone Age

At the start of the 21st century, Queens of the Stone Age had one of the most visceral sounds of any band out of California. Emerging from the mind of Kyuss guitarist Josh Homme, the band quickly were put into the stoner rock genre based on their low tunings and focus on dense sonic atmospheres.

Once Rated R was released with the lead single "Feel Good Hit of the Summer," fans were treated to some of the most punishing guitars ever to be put on a rock album. When Homme was pressed to write the lyrics though, he decided to play a goof on their new genre label. Rather than write something cerebral or mind-expanding, Homme's lyrics are pretty much a laundry list of all the different substances he consumed one evening. This was taken as a joke by many but was also meant as a jab at people who assumed the band were nothing more than chemically dependent children.

For a band that had a clear vision, it was nice to know that Homme was in on the joke of the stoner rock label from the very beginning. Sure the lyrics will not make you any smarter for having read them, but it doesn't really matter when the music feels this good.
