7. The White Stripes - Brother And Sister?!
A little white lie that they managed to keep-up for so long. The White Stripes fooled the media press by stating that they were brother and sister throughout interviews. Still in the early days of the internet, this was hard to disprove.
Jack and Meg White were actually married for a while, with Jack adopting Meg’s last name. Jack would refer to Meg as his big sister in concerts though, perhaps to keep tabloid attention away from their relationship and focus on the music.
In 2002, a Detroit newspaper discovered and printed the couple's wedding certificate from 1996. But their sibling story was still believed by fans and the press for years to come.
With the renewed success of stadium anthem Seven Nation Army, “the white stripes brother and sister or married” remains a top Google Search for the band. Jack has still kept Meg White's surname to this day, despite their pre-fame divorce in 2000.
