10 Times Rock Musicians Lost Their Cool On Stage
4. Flea Destroys His Bass
Sometime back in 1999 when the Red Hot Chili Peppers were touring their smash hit album Californication, bass player Flea had an unfortunate miss hap with his instrument, either his monitor was out, or his bass had been tuned incorrectly.
Whatever the reality, it prevented the band from being able to proceed with the swirling introduction to Around the World, which has one of the funkier and energetic bass leads in their repertoire.
Despite the crazed energy Flea is known and named for, he generally seems to be one of the more mild mannered and polite rock stars out there. Unless you mess with his bass, of course. Flea was captured screaming his annoyance at the roady responsible for this mishap, before endeavouring to slap out some more funky jams.
Testimony to the human insect, it actually sounded great, but not good enough for Flea, who after getting through the intro to Around The World, veered off into a few tasty bass licks, and in a fit of frustration threw his faulty instrument into the audience before getting one that apparently suited his needs better.
