10 Totally Cheesy Songs (That Are Still Awesome)

2. Hall & Oates - You Make My Dreams Come True

'You Make My Dreams Come True' is a peppy banger about just how t*ts is to be in love.

The opening jaunt is the sound of actually wanting to get out of bed in the morning, and not fearfully scrolling through the bowels of Twitter in a state of fuzzy anxiety. It is a song that doesn't strut - there's nothing sickly or off-putting about it - but rather bounds through the day in a state of wholesome bliss. Its use in 500 Days Of Summer was perfect; the song is unabashed in its happiness, but it's so well-crafted and energetic that it never feels remotely cloying.

The lyrics are daft, and contrived - "On a night when bad dreams become a screamer/ When they're messin' with a dreamer / I can laugh it in the face" - but they add to the overwhelming charm. This is the sound of a dude, with a gorgeous singing voice, so in love that he no-sells nightmares.

The backing "Ooh-ooh" vocals are the sound of his pal being happy for him; the sudden turn in mood at the two minute mark the sound of his heart plummeting further into his stomach.

It is a lovely song, and they just don't make 'em like that anymore - because the world is a sh*thole - but for three minutes and six seconds, it sure as sh*t doesn't feel like it.
