10 Tragic Deaths That Rocked The Music Industry

7. John Bonham - Led Zeppelin

If Led Zeppelin were still around today, chances are that they would have had the same kind of career trajectory that the Rolling Stones had, if not better. Even after calling it quits 40 years ago, the sounds of songs like Black Dog and Whole Lotta Love are still the foundation for what the hard rock genre should be. For as much as they seemed like musical gods, even the mighty Zeppelin weren't safe from mortality.

After coming out of the studio for their album In Through the Out Door, Zeppelin were about to kick off a lengthy promotional tour when John Bonham passed away. Going out for a night of heavy drinking, Bonzo ended up at Jimmy Page's house and never woke back up, having asphyxiated and died in his sleep.

Knowing Zeppelin, they could have easily found any other drummer to put in their ranks, but even they knew that there was no way to replace a legend. Bonham's trademark swing and incredible power behind the kit was a one in a million shot, and it would have been disrespectful to their mate to have anyone else behind the drum stool. Still, the handbook that Bonzo wrote for how to provide the backbeat is still reverberating throughout the music world today.
