10 Tragic Deaths That Rocked The Music Industry

6. Jimi Hendrix

When the '60s started to turn to Flower Power, it felt like the limitations were endless. With new bands popping up left and right, it was only a matter of time before the revolution succeeded and a new utopian culture would unfold. Although we all know that it never came to be, it actually felt possible when you had someone like Jimi Hendrix in the world.

Compared to the rest of the music world, Hendrix was a wizard with just how much he could do with the six-string. Just his first handful of gigs in England were enough to leave the rock world shook, with giants like Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck shaking in their boots. By the time he reached the '70s though, Hendrix was becoming artistically exhausted, building a studio and getting more and more strung out on psychedelics to concentrate on his music.

While anyone else would have taken a break by this point, Hendrix decided to push forward a little too far, eventually swallowing a handful of pills and passing away at his girlfriends' house one morning. Even though his presence may have gone away that day, that doesn't mean that he still isn't influencing people down the line. When you have everyone from The Scorpions to John Mayer to Paul McCartney pulling from your playbook, you've reached another level of musical sainthood.
