10 Tragic Deaths That Rocked The Music Industry

4. David Bowie

Most people don't really have a choice as to when they get to meet their maker. Although most people hope that it's painless, everyone reacts differently to their time running out and are probably going to savor as much time as they have left. So to think that the Thin White Duke was prolific until the very end speaks volumes about the artist we were working with.

After a bit of radio silence in the '00s, it looked like David Bowie was about to enter a new phase of his career with The Next Day, bringing in quality songs and a style of production we hadn't seen since the Berlin period. This turned out to be a bit of a sendoff though, with his next album Blackstar discussing his own mortality just a few days before he would eventually succumb to a terminal cancer diagnosis.

Just think about that for a moment. Bowie had the option of spending his final hours doing anything he wanted, and yet he decided to return to his art and make something that would last much longer than he did. Considering how ahead of the curve he was back in the day, it's nice to know that Bowie at least was able to leave this Earth on his own terms.
