10 Tragic Deaths That Rocked The Music Industry
3. Dimebag Darrell - Pantera
Anyone in the spotlight is going to have to deal with their fair share of haters. No matter how many people that you have in your corner, there's always going to be someone out there who's willing to drag you down just for the hell of it. Although you don't see too many acting on it, someone like Dimebag Darrell deserved a much better fate than what went down in Columbus, Ohio in 2004.
Coming off of the breakup of Pantera, Dimebag had just started up a new band with his brother Vinny called Damageplan when disaster struck. Just as the show was starting, a crazed fan rushed the stage with a gun and proceeded to shoot Dime dead, leaving the entire crowd stunned. While the fan was able to take out a few members of the crowd, he was eventually apprehended by police and shot before he could harm anyone else.
The damage had been done though, with the king of heavy riffs lying dead on the stage floor. By the time the news spread around the world, the entire metal community came to pay their respects, from the Dimebash show being held every year to Eddie Van Halen putting his signature yellow and black guitar in the casket with Dimebag. Considering how much he's been seen in countless ads and guitar magazines to this day, it doesn't look like the metal community is ready to forget about Dime's magic any time soon.
