10 Tragic Deaths That Rocked The Music Industry

2. John Lennon - The Beatles

Every so often, you'll have a musician that feels like more than just an entertainer that you watch on a screen. These are people with something to say who feel as real to you as the friends that you hang out with every single day. So when you have someone like that taken from you in just a few moments, it almost feels like a death in the family.

Ever since the breakup of the Beatles, fans were still treating the Fab Four as gods of the music world, with John Lennon becoming the shut-in intellectual. By the time we heard his comeback album Double Fantasy though, it was as if we were seeing him finally grown up and content with his life after a long stretch of drama with his U.S. citizenship and the aftermath of the Beatles' breakup.

The good times were never meant to last though, with Lennon being gunned down just outside his home in New York City by a crazed fan who was looking to get famous. It didn't take long for everyone to pour in, from people gathering outside of Lennon's apartment building singing his music to tribute songs from everyone from Queen to his fellow Beatles like Paul McCartney's Here Today. No matter how much you may try to separate John Lennon from the Beatles' legacy, these are the songs that have the potential to outlive any rock and roll out there.
