7. Band Hipsters
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QeHV3tyNQ60 Just look at those two joyous souls in the centre of any concert. You can see that they're probably thinking "oh god, I wish they'd stop playing this song, it's no where near as good as the b-side from their most unsuccessful and therefore best single". They're the ones who actively seek pleasure in sneering at anyone who dares to enjoy a well-known song by the band. They're the ones who will take great pleasure in telling you just how many times they've seen the band in the city the band was formed in, particularly if it's abroad. Hipsters are a confusing breed in the first place, there's too much irony circulating their systems for me to really contemplate, but at a concert is where they really shine. For example, my most recent peeve is that The Arcade Fire, a band who are extremely talented and produce great albums, but are also King Of The Hipsters, recently performed several gigs whilst imposing a dress code of suits upon the crowd. That's right, The Arcade Fire asked their fans to adorn formal wear...for a modern music event. As in, not for a classical performance, one with guitars, and shouting and singing and stuff. The whole pretentiousness of the thing is off the charts, and the sad thing is, anyone who dared not turn up to one of the shows in their Sunday best was almost certainly derided by his peers. The world has indeed gone mad.
