Hailing from Sunderland, the girly, raw-boned four-piece band released two exceptionally fun albums in the mid 90s. Wonderfully energetic, they provided a much-needed bit of a liveliness in the Britpop milieu. At the end of their last gig at the London Astoria on October 15th, 1998, Lauren Laverne disbanded the group by announcing 'we were Kenickie, a bunch of f***wits'. How can you not love a band like that? Where Are They Now: Laverne did well for herself, becoming a successful presented and radio DJ, whilst Emmy-Kate Montrose is a lecturer at Goldsmiths University and Marie du Santiago is the Chief Executive of the University of Sunderland.
