10 Underrated Alternative Pop Music Singers Of The 2010s

7. MARINA

MARINA, formerly known as Marina and the Diamonds until 2019, burst onto the music scene in 2010. Blending bubblegum punk with electropop, she refreshed the music industry, earning an MTV Music Award within the very first year of her debut release.

MARINA's journey to becoming a household name seemed inevitable, especially in light of the remarkable success she achieved with her sophomore album, Electra Heart. Within this album, she portrayed a theatrical persona, embarking beyond the confines of conventional pop music in 2012. Yet, unfortunately, this marked the pinnacle of her heyday, as MARINA's 2015 album, Froot, failed to receive the same praise as her predecessors.

Perhaps it was around 2013 onwards that MARINA's distinct style began to find echoes in other artists like Lana Del Ray, who could produce a tragic allure with more seamless sophistication. Or possibly MARINA was happy to call it a day; after all, two successful pop albums are quite impressive. Yet, it's a shame that her influence as the trailblazer for pop divas of the 2010s is frequently disregarded.
