10 Underrated Alternative Pop Music Singers Of The 2010s

6. Clairo

Immersing listeners with lo-fi beats similar to the appeal of BENEE, Clairo first arose in 2017 with three chill-pop singles. As a refreshing departure from the bombastic EDM pop scene which dominated the late-2010s, Clairo's emergence in the music industry established her as a breath of fresh air.

Her honest and vulnerable approach to music tackles love, self-discovery, and mental health themes. However, her breakout music video, Pretty Girl, in 2017, catapulted her into the spotlight. This viral YouTube video, featured Clairo casually grooving in front of the camera resulting in an undeniable lo-fi aesthetic. Despite the video's minimalistic approach, it didn't hinder Clairo's success, ultimately leading her to secure a record deal.

As a face for an inspiring story, Clairo was still slightly swept under the radar in the 2010s, but now for the 2020s, her constant new releases are undoubtedly leveraging her name. Especially given her collaborations with other alt-pop stars such as Beabadoobee and Charli XCX. With a growing reputation in the alt-pop world, Clairo's influence on the genre still often goes unnoticed by the general public.
