10 Underrated Hard Rock Albums Of The 1980s

1. Motley Crue - Shout At The Devil

It's arguable that Motley Crue were one of the leading pioneers of hard rock in the 80s, despite being knocked out of the spotlight by bigger bands later in the decade. They were partially responsible for the culture change of the genre - gone was the glam and glitter of the previous decade, replaced by hair metal, black leather outfits, motorcycles and strip clubs, trends all highlighted by the band in the way they looked and acted.

While the big hits such as 'Girls Girls Girls' and 'Kickstart My Heart' wouldn't feature until later albums, it's 'Shout At The Devil', the group's sophomore effort, that the band really make their raw creativity heard. This is Motley Crue at the height of their infancy, and their claim to be the bad boys of rock really comes through in some of these tracks. There are some serious riffs that verge into punk metal, with some fast tempos that really get the heart racing.

Add in some seriously explicit lyrics and some satanic themes, and it's an album which was very rebellious during its time.
