10 Underrated Hard Rock Albums Of The 1990s
9. M.S.G - McAuley Schenker Group
Vocalist Robin McAuley and German guitarist Michael Schenker (of UFO, Scorpions fame) had been collaborating for a few years at this point on two successful albums, but their best work was arguably to come in the 90s, yet again showing what an underrated band they were generally.
M.S.G, the group's third effort, is arguably one mainly composed of hard power ballads, and the raw emotion shines through completely. You can tell McAuley is completely in his comfort zone and his vocals are at their peak of some of these tracks - 'When I'm Gone' and 'What Happens To Me' are songs of real passion, with the singer belting out the anthems at the high end of his vocal range. There's also some haunting tunes from Schenker, especially with some great acoustic finger plucking on 'Nightmare'.
It's a slower album, but one that's key to the hard rock of the early part of the decade. It also must be said that 'This Night Is Gonna Last Forever' is one of the most passionate songs you will ever hear.
