10 Underrated Hard Rock Albums Of The 1990s
7. One Hot Minute - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Possibly the most controversial entry on this list, One Hot Minute was the sixth studio album by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and inbetween arguably their two greatest albums. Their previous effort, Blood Sugar Sex Magik, had propelled the group to international stardom and it led to internal conflicts and drug abuse. As a result, One Hot Minute took a few years to write and produce, and it wasn't particularly well received upon release.
Still, the album is a key component of the band's discography, and highlights a vulnerable time in their career. Tracks such as 'Aeroplane' make for some of the most surreal content the band produced. There's a real upbeat feel to the song and some funk incorporated with heavy guitar riffs, but the lyrics deal with a lot of personal issues vocalist Anthony Kiedis was going through at the time. 'Warped' is almost a cry for help, with the riffs bordering on heavy metal and some of the darkest lyrics on the album.
There's also a nice tribute to Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain with the song 'Tearjerker'.
