10 Unusual Music Collaborations That Should've Never Worked

4. Beyoncé & Jack White - Don’t Hurt Yourself

Don’t Hurt Yourself was nominated for Best Rock Performance at the 59th Grammys. Performed by Beyoncé, the sweetheart of 2000s RnB. The same woman who helped create Bootylicious. That alone should go a long way to showing just how successful this collaboration was.

This track is the most defiant and anger fuelled song on Lemonade, so it makes perfect sense that its sonic palette reflects that. Jack White, formerly of The White Stripes, contributed his signature dirty and gritty production style, whilst Beyoncé aggressively sings about her husband’s issues with infedelity. Just to solidify its rock creditials, the song includes a sample of When The Levee Breaks by Led Zeppelin.

In the previous decade, the two artists could not have been making music that was more different. This is an example of how effective and downright awesome stepping out of your comfort zone can be.
