When you've reached the top of the hard rock food chain, it sometimes starts to turn into a prison on the road. Regardless of how many great riffs you can pump out night after night, you're going to find yourself in a rut if you have to play the same type of thing over and over again. While going out on your own should be a recipe for disaster, Mark Tremonti has remained the one guitarist that can turn anything into gold.

Sure, the Alter Bridge songs off of their most recent album are top tier for hard rock, but Tremonti is certainly able to give his old gig a run for its money. Tackling lead vocals and lead guitar, this is where we see what really makes him tick from a musical perspective, going everywhere from AB-adjacent stuff to some of the darkest forms of hard rock ever created.

It makes sense that most of these songs were never meant for Alter Bridge either, since Myles Kennedy's voice wouldn't be suited to this gutteral growl that Tremonti tries on for size. Now that we had Myles' solo album from earlier this year out in the wild, it's time that we get some new blood from Tremonti to even out the playing field.
