2. 'Baby' Is The "Most Successful Single Of All Time"
Bieber's 'Baby' was recently crowned "the most successful single of all time", a title which has come under a lot of controversy. The crown previously belonged to Elton John's 'Candle In The Wind / Something About The Way You Look Tonight', a worthy recipient. This isn't really Bieber's fault, it's the recording industry. The issue here is that Bieber's 'Baby' has only sold roughly 3.9 million copies, in America. Sir Elton's track has sold 33 million by comparison. Bieber's new crown is largely due to the music business placing a much stronger emphasis on streaming surfaces such as Spotify and YouTube, therefore Bieber's new certification isn't down to sales, it's due to young fans watching him parade around in his videos on repeat. At this rate, with the ever growing presence of the internet, we'll have a new "most successful single of all time" every year... well, maybe not, but you get the point.
