10 Weird-Ass Music Videos That TOTALLY RUINED Awesome Songs

8. Placebo - Nancy Boy

Placebo are without doubt one of the most underrated bands to ever grace the alternative music scene. With iconic vocals and blaring guitar riffs, this three piece were revolutionary in the way they wrote songs about sexuality and not being ashamed of who you are. Which brings us nicely to their break out hit, Nancy Boy. Released in 1997, Nancy Boy broke into the top 5 of the UK charts and, upon its release, dragged their self-titled debut album from 40th in the charts to fifth.

The chorus in itself is a masterpiece with lyrics about drug addiction and bisexuality and, although the music video definitely shines a bright light on those themes, it overdoes it massively leaving the band's creepy distorted smiles forever etched into your brain. Interestingly, the drummer, Steven Hewitt, is blurred out for the entirety of the video, not because of some personal vendetta the director had against him, but because of his contractual obligations to another band.

I see my role at WhatCulture the same way my wife sees my role as a lover: I contribute in a very small way, my presence is barely noticeable and I’m not entirely sure if the laughter is at me or with me.
