10 Weirdest Rock Songs By Legendary Artists

6. Lazing On a Sunday Afternoon - Queen

If there's one thing that you'd take away from Queen's discography, it's that none of these guys were musical snobs. When combing back through every single one of their albums, you can hear them tackle everything from funk to pop to prog rock to whatever the hell is even going on in Bohemian Rhapsody. This album was called a Night at the Opera though, and it's time for the showtunes portion of the evening on Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon.

Being just under 2 minutes long, the entire existence of this song is pure camp, as Freddie Mercury sings his merry way through the song talking about his daily routine, whether that be bicycling on Wednesday evenings or going to the zoo on Thursday. Given their track record for being studio labrats, there's also a lot of added extensions for us to appreciate, like the megaphone effect that makes it sound like you're tuning into some dingy radio to hear what Freddie and the boys have to say.

Even when you do come back down to Earth with Brian May's guitar solo, it's still so damn charming, sticking around for only a few minutes while sounding like some showcase for a tap dance routine. For an album that fits so squarely in the rock category, this song taps into something that existed years before rock and roll. If you didn't know any better, this almost feels like the opening theme to a retro kids TV show.
