10 Weirdest Rock Songs By Legendary Artists

7. Love Song - Alice in Chains

As alternative rock started to take over the airwaves, Alice in Chains almost seemed to be leading two different musical lives. While they were responsible for giving us some of the most savage riffs of the decade like We Die Young and Them Bones, the beauty behind something like Jar of Flies was a different vibe entirely, as the band stripped everything down to just acoustic instruments. Though that EP may have been a classic from cover to cover, their first attempt at this was definitely a trip on Love Song.

While SAP originally got a lot of flak back in the day for being too soft for the metalheads, fans have really come around to songs like Brother and Got Me Wrong, especially after they were played at their MTV Unplugged performance. Since there was a freewheeling vibe at these sessions, Love Song is more of an experimental than it is an actual song, as the band got the bright idea of everyone trading instruments and trying to make a song out of that.

What we get instead is just two random pieces of songs, going from some background music that you'd hear at a demented carnival to a doom metal section with vocals that are practically unintelligible because of how much distortion is on them. For a band that had incredible chemistry right off the bat, this feels like they're fumbling around in the dark and praying that they at least sound cohesive. Although this was always meant to be a joke, hearing the band have fun in the studio doesn't always translate to the listener having fun.
