10 Weirdest Rock Songs By Legendary Artists

2. The Ninth Wave - Kate Bush

There's practically no way of predicting where the musical world of Kate Bush is going to go next. Even though she has never been rushed to release material in the past few years, you better be prepared for when she drops something that has the potential to level the playing field of pop music. And while Hounds of Love could have easily become a classic based on the strength of Cloudbusting and Running Up That Hill, the back half of the record is a different story entirely.

That last sentence isn't even a throwaway line either. For the most part, the second half of this record is a completely different album, subtitled the Ninth Wave depicting a woman who is lost at sea. From the sounds of this song, Kate strives to create a cinematic musical experience, where you can practically see all of these events taking place in real time, from this woman struggling to keep herself awake to dreaming of some hope of survival.

As much as Kate Bush shunned the idea of touring for most of her career, The Ninth Wave does feel like it lends itself best to a stage production, having the same size and scope that you would find on a stage at London's West End. This wasn't just a nice collection of songs though. Kate Bush was trying to show you musical colors that your mind's eye wasn't even capable of seeing yet.
