10 Worst Album Covers In Rock
5. Father of All... - Green Day
Any average rock act can really yuck it up by having a horrendous album cover. No matter what the music is like inside, sometimes the artwork itself might be a little weird for most to take in all at once. However, there's a difference between making a bad cover and actually cheapening your own legacy.
With the little bit of hindsight that we have surrounding Green Day's Father of All..., the whole record just feels like it was released kicking and screaming in an attempt to get the pop punk brats out of their record contract. At the same time, what the hell have you done to the amazing cover art from American Idiot? Make no mistake, this is just a raw reimagining of what they originally used for American Idiot. Whereas the original version had a barebones structure that cut right to the point, this is inexcusable, with a unicorn drawn by Billie Joe Armstrong himself throwing up to censor the word "Motherf*ckers" on the sleeve.
While the core foundations of punk are about how nothing is really set in stone, you really didn't have to go ahead and do this to one of your most critically acclaimed records. As it stands, this isn't just a bad album cover. This is the face of a great album cover that has been defiled for no good reason.
