10 Worst Album Covers In Rock
3. Fire Down Under - Riot
Out of all the major metal acts arriving on the scene in the late '70s, Riot has remained one of the undiscovered gems lost in the shuffle. All told, albums from the early era of this band are underground classics for any metalhead looking to dig a little deeper into the genre. In fact, probably the only thing holding them back is the reprehensible album artwork that they had on almost every single record.
Honestly, you could probably throw a dart at nearly half of Riot's catalog to find a bad album, given that most of them feature this strange creature. However, the biggest travesty has to come from their best album Fire Down Under, which shows this furball at the very center of the frame. With one look at this album art, most people would probably never suspect that this would come from a metal band, instead thinking its some doofy bubblegum pop act.
Then you get to the actual songs like Swords and Tequila and you realize that this is almost the polar opposite of what you were promised on the cover. Though there's no scientific proof of it, trying to justify this music with this kind of cover is enough to make you experience massive brain fatigue. At the end of the day, Riot's still a great band...with an absolutely wretched marketing campaign.
