10 Worst Band Breakups Of All Time
5. Queensryche
Queensryche seems to represent a very weird time period in rock culture. Just before the grunge boom would grab ahold of the masses, these guys emerged from Seattle presenting a mix between hair metal and progressive rock on albums like Operation Mindcrime and Empire.
While the band ended up having their musical differences, no one anticipated just how violent some of the blows would get.
As the band moved on from their trademark sound, many of the band members had reservations about their new direction, with Geoff Tate almost using the band as his backing group. Though Tate tried to steer them in a more contemporary direction, the band were not mincing words about their desire to return to the realms of rock. This all came to a head during a show in Brazil, where Tate allegedly spit at drummer Scott Rockenfeld.
Coming to blows after the show, the band issued a press release stating that Tate was out of the band and they were moving on with a new singer. Tate seemed to take the high road at first... until he ended up coming out with an all-new version of Queensryche with only him as an original member.
These guys could outplay a thousand of their contemporaries on their best day, but after years of performing, that metal brotherhood had finally come crumbling down.
