10 Worst Band Breakups Of All Time
4. Aerosmith
Aerosmith were nearly untouchable in the mid-'70s. The band may have originally been written off as an imitation of the British Invasion, but their output on albums like Rocks and Get Your Wings took rock back to its bluesy roots, with Steven Tyler as the unholy ringmaster.
Though their ascent was higher than anyone anticipated, the band became a runaway train shortly afterwards.
As the band started to get more money from their tours, they would end up spending most of it getting strung out on drugs, which led to the band crashing on the album Draw the Line. The songs may have still been fine, but the songwriting partnership of Tyler and guitarist Joe Perry was in shambles.
With Perry often off with his girlfriend, Tyler became increasingly frustrated that the band weren't spending as much time together to build chemistry.
Coming to a head in Cleveland, the band got into a heated argument backstage after Perry's wife Elyssa threw milk at bassist Tom Hamilton's wife Terry. After more than a few insults thrown back and forth, Perry left the venue with his guitar in tow, off to make it on his own as a solo artist.
The band would eventually make up by the mid-80s, but that initial magic was lost the minute Perry left that room.
