10 Worst Burnouts In Rock History

6. Aerosmith - Draw the Line

In the early '70s, you couldn't find better poster children for the rock and roll lifestyle than Aerosmith. Taking the traditional rock and roll sound of a band like the Rolling Stones and infusing it with Led Zeppelin's bluesy swagger, albums like Toys in the Attic and Rocks were the blueprint for how hard rock was supposed to sound going forward. However, with the rock and roll lifestyle comes drugs...a LOT of drugs.

Then again, it's not like Aerosmith were the straightest of bands on their more classic material, given that most of the subject matter was about the excesses they were dealing with. Going into Draw the Line though, things started to come to a head in the studio when no one was willing to work. Building a makeshift studio in an abandoned manor called the Cenacle, days would pass where nothing got done, with Joe Perry held up in his room getting high on heroin.

Though you can still hear some great material coming to the forefront on the title track and Kings and Queens, the whole atmosphere surrounding this record is a lot more dire than people probably remember, as tension led to the band members firing off guns to let out their anger. Draw the Line may still be a great album, but if the Bad Boys from Boston continued on this trajectory, someone would have come back from the road in a body bag.
