10 Worst Closing Songs On Great Albums

8. Inside - Van Halen

Considering the uphill battle that Van Halen were up against, it's a miracle that 5150 manages to have such a solid track listing. Coming in with a completely new singer with a different attitude than David Lee Roth, the band seems to have grown up a lot on this record, leaning into the keyboards and writing lyrics that are a lot more thoughtful than the odes to rock and roll in the early days. Towards the end, they don't so much drop the ball as much as they just let the record fizzle out.

Although the raw sound of this song isn't too different than what you were seeing on the album cuts like Best of Both Worlds, this entire thing just feels like the band already had everything in the can and they're just making up this one on the spot. With only a few verses of the song and one chorus, Sammy Hagar sounds like he's improvising this as he sings and the background vocals sound pretty bored, especially by the standards of Michael Anthony.

Then again, there isn't anything too wrong with a song like this either. As much as it might not be doing anything too terribly wrong or anything, it's not exactly breaking new ground on an album that was stuffed to the gills with great ideas. Inside doesn't deserve to be thought of as one of the worst Van Halen songs or anything, but when you compare it to the album opener Good Enough, this feels like the band have been going for a while and are just starting to run out of gas.
