10 Worst Closing Songs On Great Albums

6. They're Red Hot - Red Hot Chili Peppers

It's almost expected from the Red Hot Chili Peppers to do something a little bit off the rails whenever they go into the studio. For every work of musical genius like Under the Bridge, you also have stuff like I Like Dirt that you're not really supposed to take all that seriously. When you're on the verge of making one of the greatest albums of your entire career though, you can leave the bluesy piss take on the cutting room floor.

Across Blood Sugar Sex Magik, the Peppers really found their true groove, working with Rick Rubin to craft one of the most diverse track listings in their career, going from the sounds of Give It Away to heartbreaking ballads like I Could Have Lied. Although something like They're Red Hot is expected from them as a goof, this reworking of an old Robert Johnson song just feels like the right energy happening at the wrong time.

If you really think about it, this is the kind of song that probably would have worked a lot better if it was on another album, fitting right in on records like the Uplift Mofo Party Plan. What makes this sting that much more though is the fact that it's following Sir Psycho Sexy, whose 8 minute journey would have left the listeners on a high note. Then again, maybe we all just needed a reminder that Peppers can be just a little bit nuts sometimes. That's fine, but y'all were doing so well with the heartfelt stuff. Why did you have to give us this random 180 turn?
